Healthy meals and snacking

Hello to my fellow friends, the gluten-free, as well as the not so gluten-free. Anyone that lives in and around this environment knows what it’s like to search for meals and snacks that are healthy and within a budget. When we buy pre-made gf foods, many of which are still processed, it raises our grocery bill significantly, and may not be the healthy choice we need to help heal our physical bodies.  A newly gluten free individual may still be waiting for their fibromyalgia to ease up or go away, for less urgent trips to the bathroom, for clearer skin, for a relief in joint pain, for acid reflux to be gone, for the foggy headedness to dissipate, to be done with anxiety, depression, extreme fatigue, RLS, chills, thinning hair, migraines, and unfortunately the list goes on. Since there is no prescription to treat or cure gluten intolerance or Celiac disease, many times it’s the symptoms that are treated, leaving your body to continue to fight for survival without addressing the underlying issue. And that’s why 95% of the people that have gluten issues don’t even know. A staggering 1 in 135 people are gluten sensitive. Which is why, as you can imagine, many of us that now know are so grateful to have learned something that many people are still in the dark about. But even so, it doesn’t make the transition any less difficult. I remember on several occasions, especially when I was pregnant and hungry (which was every minute of the day) that I would stand in the kitchen and cry, wondering what I could eat. If someone were to offer me a salad…again…deep down inside I wanted to throw something at them. So, learning to find meals and snacks that are simple, easy to make, healthy and affordable are a HUGE deal to us, and those that have to live with us. 🙂 One of my “go-to’s” has always been a protein shake. Since I can remember, those have always been a part of mine and my husbands diet. They’re quick, full of vitamins, and filling.  My choice is the Slim and Sassy line made by the doTerra brand.
